According to Chinese mythology, the Iron Fan belongs to Princess Iron Fan (铁扇公主). She is married to the Bull Demon King (牛魔王) and mother to the Red Boy (红孩儿). 

She possessed the magical Banana Leaf Fan A.K.A the Iron Fan. The fan, made from banana leaves, is extremely large and has magical properties. It can create giant whirlwinds which are capable of extinguishing the fire on the Flaming Mountains. Princess Iron Fan used this ability to extort favors from the residents near the mountains: by fanning only once each time, the fire would only be extinguished for a year before starting again.
